Yep, it’s that song Basshunter composed. Now anyway, straight to business. I don’t see why everyone is talking about Defense of the Ancients 24/7. Everyone is playing that old modified map for Warcraft III and oh my, how old was it again? No one bothers to move on to the newer maps, let alone take the time to play the Real-Time Strategy game itself. Yes, I enjoyed Warcraft III and it’s expansion, The Frozen Throne a lot. But ever since DoTA reached the shores of Malaysia, it became overrated like f*ck in here.

The overrated modification for Warcraft III

The worst thing about DoTArds is that EVERYONE is talking about it EVERYWHERE! Try playing a game of Call of Duty 4 on Garena, call that sucker you just humiliated a n00b and I can guarantee you that sucker will respond with the following phrase or something similar.

“Come 1v1 DoTA me la”.

The overused phrase pops up on MSN...

Seriously, since when the fuck was Call of Duty 4 related to DoTA, let alone Warcraft III? Call of Duty 4 is a modern arcade shooter from 2008 and Warcraft III is based on it’s own mythology! These people fail so much at one game, they have to resort to challenging the others to another game that they’re good at. That is so friggin “Pro”(sarcasm) mate.

If this retardation on the Internet wasn’t enough, then I can tell you that it has spread to the real world. I ask a friend of mine, Mr. Siew Herng Ling to play a game of Warcraft III(YES, THE RTS GAME, NOT DOTA OK?) with me and he says “COME 1V1 DOTA LA!”. When I asked my schoolmates why they would only play DoTA(with the exceptiong of DANCE! Online), most of them couldn’t give me an answer, let alone a bad one. The most I got out of them was….

“Because it actually requires skill to play.”

Warcraft III, the last game you would expect a Malaysian to play.

OK, I’ll give it some credit there. DoTA does require some skill. But that does not mean that you need to go crazy about it. In fact, it has turned into a game whose players went “LOL I CAN CLICK FASTER THAN YOU AND YOU CANT. YOU ARE SO NOOB!”. But majority of the people I interviewed responded with……

“BECAUSE DOTA IS THE BEST!!!”

More proof that fanboyism is common in Malaysia. If all this load of bullocks wasn’t enough, then you should look at the amount of rip-offs created. X Hero Siege, Fight of the Characters, Fufu Ninja, Vamparism… the list goes on. Seriously, start playing another game instead of just playing DoTA for 24 hours. Otherwise, get a life.

I don’t like laptops. Some might, especially college/university students and adults. But I don’t. The people of Sibu do not care about their system’s specifications as long as they can play their games and run their applications properly. They think that laptops can beat the power of desktops. Seriously, this pointless bullsh*t is like saying “Alright, I’ll take that red car” without even knowing what they’re buying. To be honest, laptops have their own advantages. Sure they’re 5 times lighter than a desktop and you can easily carry them anywhere but today’s laptops still have a lot of issues.

Overheating:

Laptops(especially those manufactured by Acer) overheat way to easily. Turn it on for 24 hours straight and that piece of junk is guranteed to become a hot oven. Sure, you could get an external fan to cool it down but still, an efficient fan costs about MYR100. Way to make people dig out more money from their wallets.

NOTE: Some laptops do not overheat so easily. Laptops manufactured by Dell can be a good example to that.

The BSOD:

Most laptops are more vulnerable to BSODs aka the Blue Screen Of Death. If it’s not the Blue Screen, then it’s a bunch of errors which can become a system hog. Score one for craptops.

SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW DOWN:

Laptops slow down easily, thanks to overheating issues. Sure, the first few days with your brand new laptop feels nice but even the most powerful laptops become turtles. If that wasn’t enough, modifying laptops is strictly restricted to RAM and HDD.

Oh noes, my laptop is completely borked!:

If a part of your laptop breaks down, say, your GPU, you can’t replace it. Knowing Malaysia, you’re gonna have to buy a whole new laptop, thanks to the fact that modifying laptops is strictly restricted to RAM and HDD. Your best bet is to ship it from foreign countries and hope that they don’t lose the hardware for you. It’s not that you can’t replace the broken GPU, it’s because of the fact that Malaysia is so friggin outdated. Score 1 for 1Malaysia!

But then, I cannot deny the fact that desktops also have their own disadvantages. Yes, I am a desktop fanboy, thank you.

Weight:

As I mentioned above, a laptop is much lighter than an average desktop. Yes, even the heaviest laptop in the world can be lighter than a desktop from the 90s.

Size:

Desktops are not portable. Unlike laptops, they’re big.

So there you are. Desktops may have more power, at the cost of mobility and size. They also need a whole desk to support them. A laptop can be placed on nearly every surface(except for water LOL). Wherever you are, you can bring your laptop with you. Sadly, laptops lack power and speed. Desktops can also be modified and they can also support a wide range of monitors. Therefore, if you’re a university or college student, or go travel frequently, grab a laptop. But if you’re going to maximize your system’s capabilities, then get a desktop. But above all else, check the specifications
